Personal data breach containing personal information of more than 533 million Facebook users from 106 countries

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s cell phone number appeared among the personal information leaked online in a hacking forum.

Multiple outlets reported allegations about Zuckerberg’s leaked personal information, where his data, including his name, geographical location, marriage details, date of birth and Facebook account, were disclosed.

A hacked user posted personal data to hundreds of millions of facebook users for free online. The data contains personal information for more than 533 million Facebook users from 106 countries.

Mark Zuckerberg, as well as Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskowitz, were among 533 million users whose personal data was posted, said cyber researcher Dave Walker.

« With regard to Facebook leaks #FacebookLeak, the irony is that Mark Zuckerberg is also among the 533 million people in the leak, » Walker wrote on Twitter.

A Facebook spokesman said: « This is old data previously reported in 2019, and we discovered and fixed this problem in August 2019, without commenting on Zuckerberg’s information. »

Publishing the entire data set through the piracy forum free of charge makes it widely available to anyone.

Although the leaked data is two years old, it provides valuable information to cybercriminals who use personal information to impersonate or trick people into handing over login data.

Previous privacy violations via Facebook include the highly publicized Cambridge Analytica story.

Political data analytics company Cambridge Analytica has obtained personal data from more than 87 million facebook users.

The Federal Trade Commission fined Facebook $5 billion as part of a settlement over the company’s mishandle of user data.

Facebook then pledged to clamp down on data violations, saying in a blog post on its website following Cambridge Analytica’s discoveries: « It is taking action on possible past violations and developing stronger protections to prevent future violations. »
